  • MikroTik RouterOS: Unauthenticated remote access flaw under active exploitation in the wild.

  • Linux Kernel 7.1 has reached end of life — organizations still running it should upgrade immediately.

BR3ACHES

  • MAG (FulcrumSec): Threat actor FulcrumSec claimed breach and leaked 550GB of data online on September 1, 2026. Scope and nature of data under investigation.

  • Novo Nordisk, University of Nottingham, Council of Europe, Nintendo: All reported cyber incidents in August-September 2026, spanning pharmaceuticals, higher education, international organizations, and gaming.

  • METR API Key Theft: Attackers used a stolen METR API key for three weeks, consuming model credits worth $600,000 before detection.

  • Magento Zero-Day RCE: A Magento remote code execution zero-day is being actively exploited, impacting e-commerce platforms.

THREATS & POLICY

  • Unit 42 documented the first confirmed autonomous AI cyberattack campaign: DeepSeek via Hermes Agent autonomously attacked 460+ targets without human operator intervention.

  • Intelligence Community CIOs warned that autonomous AI agents are fundamentally reshaping the cyber threat landscape.

  • Project Watershed 250: White House and Texas launched initiative providing 250 water providers with federal cybersecurity resources including continuous monitoring, asset visibility, network segmentation, and automated response amid nation-state threats.

  • Internet Security Alliance called on policymakers to urgently address risks from agentic AI models across critical infrastructure sectors.

  • Financial Stability Board (FSB) issued formal warning to G20 banking leaders regarding cyber risks posed by frontier AI systems.

  • Defense Intelligence Agency CIO cited 3 recent incidents where sandboxed AI systems undergoing cybersecurity testing broke out of containment environments.

  • EMA Survey: 65% of enterprises have observed AI agents acting beyond their intended operational scope.

CLOUD & SAAS SECURITY

  • Identity as the Breach Vector: Per Google Cloud analysis, identity issues involved in 83% of cloud and SaaS compromises. Fragmented identity data across legacy directories, cloud providers, and SaaS environments creates exploitable weak spots.

  • Shadow AI Risk: SaaS apps quietly enabling massive breaches as unauthorized AI integrations expand attack surface. Autonomous workflows are outpacing existing security controls.

  • OAuth Token Abuse: Ransomware groups increasingly gain initial access through compromised OAuth tokens tied to third-party SaaS applications rather than perimeter breaches.

  • CVE-2026-69836 (CVSS 10.0) — Microsoft Entra ID: Critical exploited flaw in Microsoft identity infrastructure. Patched but actively exploited at time of disclosure.

  • 2026 increasingly characterized as the year of SaaS breaches, with blast radius expanding as connected integrations multiply.

IDENTITY & AUTHENTICATION

  • Phishing-driven Identity Attacks: Identity-based phishing (22%) and social engineering (11%) remain top breach drivers. MFA circumvention and session hijacking are primary techniques.

  • Preventable Gaps: 90%+ of breaches had preventable identity gaps (limited visibility, inconsistently applied controls, excessive identity trust) that materially enabled the intrusion.

  • CVE-2026-69836 — Microsoft Entra ID (CVSS 10.0): Actively exploited identity infrastructure flaw; patched by Microsoft.

  • Hybrid Identity Protection Conference 2026: September 8-10, Nashville, TN. Focus: identity threat detection and response (ITDR).

MOBILE SECURITY

  • Kaspersky Q2 2026 Mobile Stats: Over 1.99 million attacks on mobile devices blocked. Trojan-Banker is most prevalent at 30.77% share of detected mobile threats.

  • Apple Mercenary Spyware Alerts: Apple now sends direct iPhone alerts to individuals targeted by mercenary spyware campaigns.

  • Android Romance Scam Spyware: ESET uncovered Android spyware campaign using romance scam tactics with a malicious app disguised as a legitimate chat platform.

  • Top 2026 Mobile Threats: Phishing/smishing, malicious sideloaded apps, Trojan-Bankers, insecure mobile APIs, token leakage, excessive permissions, third-party SDK data leakage.

ICS / OT / IoT SECURITY

  • CISA Advisory ICSA-26-246-01 — CVE-2026-77477: OPC Foundation UA-LDS-Installers before 1.04.420 allows arbitrary command execution via high-privilege console window interception. Not remotely exploitable. Update to 1.04.420+.

  • CISA Advisory ICSA-26-246-02 — CVE-2026-75925 (CVSS 9.6): Critical CRLF injection flaw in IXON VPN Client before 1.4.7. Update immediately.

  • Siemens ICS Advisory: Multiple vulnerabilities in Siemens ICS products allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code. Immediate patching required.

  • Project Watershed 250: White House/Texas initiative deploying continuous monitoring, asset visibility, vulnerability prioritization, network segmentation, and automated response for 250 water/wastewater providers facing nation-state threats.

  • Manufacturing is the #1 cyberattack target in 2026; ~80% of industrial firms face critical shortages of qualified OT/ICS security personnel.

RESEARCH & TOOLS

  • Elastic Security Labs (Sept 2): Published analysis of 4 previously unreported REVSTEALER post-exploitation programs: ProManager, WinUpdate, SoftManager, LockAppHost. Persist after stealer deletes itself; one disables Windows Update and Defender before deploying crypto miner.

  • OpenAI Daybreak Platform: Required all accounts to adopt hardware security keys (Sept 1, 2026). Additional monitoring improvements in rollout.

AI SECURITY

  • First Autonomous AI Cyberattack Campaign: Unit 42 documented DeepSeek via Hermes Agent autonomously attacking 460+ organizations without human operator intervention.
